Group Medical is health insurance provided by an employer to its employees. Individual Medical is health insurance an individual purchases on their own, not through an employer.

If a company is eligible for fully-insured group medical, here are the benefits:

  • The employer gives their employees select choices of health insurance plans and this leads to less confusion or “analysis paralysis”.
  • The premium cost is often split between the employer and employee, and there is a minimum percentage rate the employer must contribute. This helps attract and retain talent.
  • Employer premium contributions are not subject to federal taxes and contributions can be made pre-tax, which lowers taxable income.
